I am considering trialing/purchasing SQX and wanted to know users experiences with creating/deploying strategies on Tradestation for futures – is it a smooth experience.
I ask as I am trialing it and it is clear from the forum questions and the vocabulary/system seems to be very geared for fx – e.g. “pips, 0.1 lots” and I don’t want to have a lot of hassle as I’m primarily interested in futures.
Thank you

Hey Darwin,
Yes, it’s pretty straight forward uploading data from Tradestation and start running strategies. I use Tradestation as well.
But, as you correctly stated, you have to get the contract specs correct. There is a blog article: https://strategyquant.com/blog/importing-data-tradestation-strategyquant/
Each time I create a new futures instrument, I also check on the Barchart website for the contract specification to make sure. Then I quickly run a couple of strategies and look at the detail trades to make sure the profit/loss per trade is calculated correctly.
On a sidenote, what I do find hard with futures is creating good day trading strategies i.e. opening and closing trades on the same day. But I’m still working through all the settings myself so hopefully will improve in that area.
Hope it’s clear.
Pieter
