I’m preparing for a prop firm challenge exam and looking for advice on developing a robust trading strategy. Specifically, I’m trying to figure out how to create a strategy that can pass the challenge while avoiding common pitfalls like hitting daily loss limits or maximum drawdown thresholds.
Some key points I’m considering:
- Daily loss limit: How can I structure my trades to avoid hitting the typical 5% daily loss limit?
- Maximum drawdown: What techniques can I use to keep my overall drawdown under the common 10% threshold? ( I know we can dismiss those over Max DD%>=10% strategy during testing in SQX)
- Risk management: What are some effective ways to manage risk without overly limiting potential gains?
- Consistency: How can I develop a strategy that performs consistently throughout the challenge period?
- Adapting to different market conditions: What approaches work well for maintaining performance across varying market environments?
- Position sizing: Any tips on optimal position sizing to balance risk and reward?
- Stop loss placement: How should I approach setting stop losses to protect capital while allowing trades room to breathe?

I focused on strategies with tight stop losses and quick trade exits, then filtered by high win rate and profit factor on recent data, especially M30-H1 timeframes. Keeps drawdown manageable.

Were you able to pass any prop firm challenge with it? Also, I am not able to get my head around leverage. Most of the prop firms have 1:100 leverage on forex pairs. I think SQX uses no leverage. So any strategy that has max drawdown in double digits won’t survive. How should I get around this?
