Big Changes Coming to StrategyQuant: First Look from Our Team’s Hidden Hackathon!

While you may have been trading markets or optimizing your strategies, behind the scenes at StrategyQuant, an event was taking place that could forever change how you work with trading data and algorithms.

When brilliant minds lock themselves in one room…

Last week, our development team barricaded themselves in a meeting room armed with nothing but laptops, a whiteboard, and an endless supply of coffee. The goal? To break through the current boundaries of algorithmic trading.

In the first photo, you can see the moment when a new architecture was being born – diagrams full of arrows and connections between database systems, analytical tools, and something strongly resembling advanced artificial intelligence integration. The raised eyebrows and focused expressions of our senior developers suggest this is no ordinary update.

Eureka moment captured in the second photo

Thumbs up, smiles, and an atmosphere of undisguised excitement in the second photo reveal that the hackathon delivered exactly the results we hoped for. After many hours of coding and searching for optimal solutions, something was born that (as we believe) will fundamentally change your experience with StrategyQuant.

What lies ahead?

We’re not exaggerating when we say we’re working on functionality that will push the boundaries of how you currently perceive trading data analysis and strategy creation. It’s a combination of several technologies that have never been connected in such a way in the trading field before.

We can reveal that it relates to:

  • Intelligent algorithms that learn from your preferences
  • A completely new approach to strategy creation

Get involved!

Before we reveal all the secrets, we’d love to hear your tips and wishes. What do you think the next generation of StrategyQuant should include? What features would make your work easier?

Share your ideas in the comments – you might guess what we’re working on, or inspire us to make further improvements!

Keep an eye on our blog and social media – we’ll soon bring more specific information about how this revolution will change your trading.

A huge feature would be to be able to live trade with SQX. I mean have, perhaps a separate app, where you can load in SQX strategy files, adjust their inputs, and press a “live trade” button. I’d firstly build this as a bridge to send trades to MetaTrader (via the Python API, a socket, or ZeroMQ, etc.), then in a second versión add support for, say, Interactive Brokers API, to connect to their IB Gateway (for futures, stocks, etc.), and in a third version, support for connecting to TradeStation’s API. Big advantage: no third party platform involved. The same… Read more »

That sounds like an exciting prospect. It would be wonderful to explore the possibility of integrating neural networks into SQX, either as modular components or as an alternative to the existing algorithm generation process.

It will be awesome if SQX has integration to Transformer for Time Series Representation Learning. Let me know if you need the source code.

Hi can you please add this feature, i think this can be a game changer when it come to parameter sensitivity test: https://www.buildalpha.com/noise-test-parameter-optimization/

Sounds great! Will I need to upgrade my box?

It would be great if we could have MT5 integration in cloud platform AlgoCloud, economic news integration from MT5 (MT5 indicator and script to download news from MT5 and integrate it inside SQX).

I would like to have the ability to describe my strategy ideas to an LLM and have it build and backtest the strategy for me along with the ability to suggest and test different permutations. Right now, I can have all kinds of discussions with ChatGPT about ideas I have and get feedback and suggestions but then when I want to test I have to try and have ChatGPT write code for me in Pinescript or Ninjatrader, etc. My strategies are all price action based and WAY beyond the capability of ChatGPT to write code for. I end up manually… Read more »

Amazing stuff! One thing you could look into is being able to run a strategy in a customized list of instruments within SQX, rather than one instrument at a time. For example, building the same strategy for Gold, Silver and Platinum simultaneously. I would imagine it for the Builder, Retester, Optimizer and AlgoWizard. It’s not necessarily the same as the stockpicker, because it would be for a fixed list of instruments.

Or in reverse. It would be nice to have something AI trained on all things StrategyQuant that can be prompted to go away and develop something that can then be reviewed and tested etc.Maybe something simple like “I am interested in this type of strategy on these currence pairs, build be a custom block that will do these things (A, B and C), test it and then put it in my system so I can either use it in a strategy or conduct further research using it”. Continue the original concept of SQX, build EAs with no programming. It would… Read more »

What would be great is to upgrade the stock-picking engine to the same level (or close) to the one for single-assets, with as many indicators and blocks available and backtesing stock-picking strategies on weekly/monthly bars would be nice. Live trading with IBKR for Europeans and non-US on Algocloud would also be awesome.

Thank you for the good work.

I’ve been using sqx for over 7 years, starting with sq3, and it’s a fantastic tool. Another fantastic tool for analyzing and monitoring live accounts is QuantAnalyzer, although it’s been somewhat neglected in recent years due to the major updates to StrategyQuant. I have a course based on StrategyQuant, and over the years, the biggest issue students face is in making sqx strategies similar to MT4/5. That’s why QuantAnalyzer’s support for comparing backtests and analyzing sqx files with MetaTrader HTML files is essential. I agree with user Kevin, but since I see this as a major development, it would be… Read more »

Not all users have the money to purchase the ultimate version to verify sqx and html files; it was previously included with the SQX program.

That’s why I think it would be very helpful for users to be able to verify strategies once created and track them within SQX with live reports. At the end of the day, this is where money is win and lost on the trading platform.
