Welcome to StrategyQuant

We are a fintech software development company specializing on algo trading and machine learning.

StrategyQuant X is a platform for developing, researching, testing, and improving algorithmic trading strategies.

It can automatically generate trading strategies for different markets and timeframes using advanced algorithms and machine-learning techniques, without requiring programming skills.

StrategyQuant X is not limited to strategy generation. It provides a complete research environment where you can:

  • Generate new trading strategies and ideas
  • Test your own strategy concepts
  • Backtest and optimize strategies
  • Perform extensive robustness and overfitting checks
  • Analyze strategy performance
  • Build and evaluate strategy portfolios
  • Export complete strategy source code for supported trading platforms

This makes it suitable both for traders who want the software to search for new strategy ideas and for experienced systematic traders who want to test and validate their own concepts.

StrategyQuant X can generate complete strategy source code for the following supported trading platforms:

  • MetaTrader 4
  • MetaTrader 5
  • TradeStation
  • MultiCharts
  • JForex

The generated source code is not locked, so you can review and modify it in the target platform if needed.

Yes.

StrategyQuant X includes an integrated Data Manager that allows you to download historical market data directly within the application.

Free data suitable for many Forex and CFD markets are available from integrated providers. You can also import your own historical data if you prefer another data source.

Premium Equities and Futures data are available separately depending on your SQX edition.

Premium Equities and Futures data can be accessed directly within StrategyQuant X.

Availability depends on your license:

  • Starter: Premium Equities and Futures data are not included and can be purchased separately.
  • Professional: A limited introductory period of Premium Equities and Futures data is currently included. After that, you can continue with a separate data subscription.
  • Ultimate: Lifetime access to the Premium Equities and Futures data package is included.

You can find the current data packages and conditions here.

You do not need previous experience with algorithmic trading to start using StrategyQuant X, although understanding the basic principles of trading and strategy development is naturally helpful.

Full SQX licenses include an educational package with a comprehensive video (more than 10 hours of algo-trading content) course covering both algorithmic-trading concepts and practical work with StrategyQuant X.

You can also use:

We recommend starting with the basic workflow and gradually moving to more advanced topics such as robustness testing, optimization, and portfolio construction.

The most common error message is:

“Check License FAILED. Reason: License is not valid for this computer.”

StrategyQuant X licenses are linked to the computer on which they are activated. The license may therefore need to be reset after:

  • Changing your computer or server
  • Certain major operating-system changes

You can reset your license from the Dashboard in your client area after logging in to our website. You can perform up to five self-service license resets.

If you have reached this limit or the issue continues, contact our support team and we will help you resolve it.

Please note that licenses are intended for use on a specific computer and are not designed to be moved frequently between devices.

There may be other possible causes. If you need help, please first follow the instructions provided in the error message you see when the issue occurs. If that does not resolve it, you can contact us at [email protected].

Yes.

Our standard licensing policy is one license per computer.

If you want to run StrategyQuant X on several of your own devices (not only simultaneously)—for example a workstation, laptop, or dedicated server—you can purchase additional licenses at a discounted price.

Please contact our support team for the current options.

Additional licenses are intended for the same user and must be registered under the same email address as the main license. They cannot be shared with other users.

StrategyQuant X is primarily offered as a lifetime license rather than a traditional subscription.

If you prefer to spread the cost over time, you can choose a 12-month installment plan.

You receive the same full license immediately. After all 12 payments have been completed, the license becomes lifetime and no additional license payments are required.

You can cancel the installment plan before completing all 12 payments, but in that case the license will stop working.

Please note that the total price paid through installments is higher than the one-time payment. You can always see the current difference on our Pricing page.

Yes.

You can upgrade your StrategyQuant X edition without purchasing the software again from scratch.

The available upgrade options and current prices can be found here. You need to scroll down a little below the main pricing table and open the expandable sections underneath, where you’ll find the information about upgrades.

The main differences between the editions are the available research and robustness features, premium modules, data access, QuantAnalyzer Pro access, and the duration of support and updates.

The Ultimate edition currently includes, among other benefits:

  • Lifetime SQX support and software updates
  • Lifetime Premium Equities and Futures data
  • QuantAnalyzer Pro
  • SQ for Business
  • Portfolio Master, Volume & Market Profile and other premium modules

You can manage your licenses from the Dashboard in your StrategyQuant account.

Go to: https://strategyquant.com/ and select:

Account → Login

Use the same email address that you used when purchasing your license. This allows your account and licenses to be linked automatically.

Depending on your SQX edition, the Dashboard also provides access to the associated products and bonuses.

Prices on the StrategyQuant website are displayed in US dollars and exclude VAT.

The final payment currency and applicable taxes are calculated automatically during checkout based on your billing country and payment method.

If you are purchasing as a business and have a valid VAT ID, enter it during checkout. Whether VAT is charged depends on your country and the applicable tax regulations.

QuantAnalyzer Pro is currently included with the StrategyQuant X Ultimate edition.

You can use your StrategyQuant X Ultimate license code to activate QuantAnalyzer Pro.

The included QuantAnalyzer license is linked to the same computer as your SQX license.

Strategy generation and backtesting are computationally demanding, so StrategyQuant X benefits significantly from a modern multi-core CPU and sufficient RAM.

As a practical guideline:

Minimum:

  • Approximately 8 GB RAM
  • At least 4 CPU cores
  • Sufficient free disk space for the application and historical data

Recommended for regular research:

  • 32 GB RAM
  • 8 or more modern CPU cores
  • SSD or NVMe storage

For demanding research, large Databanks, extensive optimizations, or multiple simultaneous projects, 64 GB or more RAM and a high-core-count CPU can be useful.

You can still use StrategyQuant X on a less powerful computer. The main difference is research speed and how many strategies, tests, and optimization tasks you can process simultaneously.

In most cases, CPU performance has the greatest effect on strategy-generation and backtesting speed.

For StrategyQuant X, a powerful desktop PC or workstation usually offers the best price-to-performance ratio for strategy generation, backtesting, optimization, and robustness testing.

But if you need SQX to run remotely 24/7, or simply prefer a server-based setup, a dedicated server is generally a better choice than a standard VPS. A dedicated server gives you exclusive access to the physical CPU, RAM, and storage, which typically results in more stable and predictable performance. Standard VPS plans usually rely on shared CPU resources and can therefore be significantly slower, even when they advertise a high number of virtual CPU cores.

A VPS is usually better suited for running MetaTrader and live trading strategies, where hardware requirements are much lower.

For most advanced users, a practical setup is:

  • a powerful desktop PC or workstation with a modern multi-core CPU, at least 64 GB RAM, and a fast NVMe SSD for StrategyQuant X;
  • alternatively, a dedicated server if SQX needs to run remotely or continuously;
  • a smaller VPS located close to the broker for running live trading strategies.

When comparing computers or servers, focus on real CPU performance rather than the advertised number of cores alone. For example, an older dual-Xeon workstation with many cores can still be considerably slower than a modern Ryzen-based desktop with fewer, but much faster, cores.

Memory configuration is one of the most common causes of stability problems in StrategyQuant X.

Problems can occur when:

  1. Your computer does not have enough available RAM.

Large Databanks, complex optimizations, and multiple simultaneous tasks can consume substantial memory.

Reducing the number of stored strategies or running fewer tasks at the same time can help.

  1. StrategyQuant X is not configured to use enough available memory.

You can review the memory allocation under:

Configuration → Memory

You can open Configuration using the gear icon in the upper-right corner of StrategyQuant X.

If necessary, increase the maximum amount of RAM available to SQX while still leaving enough memory for the operating system and other applications.

You can also enable:

Configuration → Troubleshooting → Use memory protection

This can stop projects before the system reaches a critical memory level.

If crashes continue despite sufficient RAM and correct settings, please contact our support team with details about your configuration and the circumstances in which the problem occurs.

Trading costs can be configured directly in StrategyQuant X.

You can define commissions, spreads, and slippage globally for a particular instrument under:

Data Manager → Instruments

You can also override these settings for a specific Builder, Retester, or Optimizer project under:

Full Settings → Data

Using realistic trading costs is important when evaluating strategy performance, especially on lower timeframes or strategies with a high number of trades.

Yes, but MetaTrader indicators cannot simply be imported directly into StrategyQuant X.

Indicators and other building blocks used by SQX are implemented as Java snippets.

StrategyQuant X is designed to be extensible, so experienced users and developers can create custom indicators, signals, filters, and other building blocks.

Documentation is available here.

Full-license users can also request the development of additional indicators or building blocks.

Small differences between backtesting platforms can be normal.

StrategyQuant X is designed to reproduce the behavior of its supported target platforms as closely as possible, but results will only be comparable if both tests use equivalent data and settings.

Check especially:

  • Historical data source and time period
  • Time zone
  • Trading sessions
  • Spread
  • Commission
  • Slippage
  • Order and execution settings
  • Strategy parameters

More information about reliable backtesting is available here.

If you have verified the data and settings and still believe you have found a software issue, you can report it via e-mail [email protected].

Please contact us by email with your suggestion or a detailed description of the issue. We will be happy to review it and assist you.

Not automatically.

An existing MetaTrader Expert Advisor written in MQL4 or MQL5 cannot be imported directly into StrategyQuant X and automatically converted into an editable SQX strategy.

If you know the logic of the EA, however, you can manually recreate it in AlgoWizard using its visual strategy editor.

Once recreated as an SQX strategy, you can use StrategyQuant X to backtest, optimize, modify, and further analyze it.

AlgoWizard is the visual strategy editor built directly into StrategyQuant X.

It allows you to create trading strategies by combining conditions, indicators, actions, and trading rules through a visual drag-and-drop interface instead of writing source code manually.

The main difference between AlgoWizard and the StrategyQuant X Builder is how you start:

  • Use AlgoWizard when you already know the logic and rules of the strategy you want to create.
  • Use Builder when you want StrategyQuant X to search automatically for new strategy candidates and combinations of trading rules.

AlgoWizard can also be used to inspect and manually modify strategies generated by the Builder.

Once a strategy is ready, it can be backtested and exported as source code for supported trading platforms.

AlgoWizard is included directly in full StrategyQuant X licenses.

QuantAnalyzer is a tool for analyzing existing strategies, backtests, and real trading results.

Unlike StrategyQuant X, its main purpose is not to generate new trading strategies. Instead, it helps you examine existing results in greater detail and evaluate them from different perspectives.

QuantAnalyzer includes tools for:

  • Detailed performance analysis
  • Advanced statistics and reports
  • Portfolio analysis
  • Money Management simulations
  • What-If scenarios
  • Monte Carlo analysis
  • Equity Control simulations
  • Comparing strategies and trading results

It can import results from a wide range of trading and tracking platforms.

QuantAnalyzer Pro is also included with the StrategyQuant X Ultimate edition.

The Free version allows you to explore the core QuantAnalyzer functionality, but some advanced tools are limited.

Current limitations include:

  • Money Management: analysis is limited to 30% of trades
  • Equity Control: analysis is limited to 30% of trades
  • Portfolio Master: portfolios are limited to a maximum of four strategies
  • Compare Results: analysis is limited to the first 50 trades

QuantAnalyzer Pro removes these restrictions and provides full access to the available analysis features.

The most common error is:

“Check License FAILED. Reason: License is not valid for this computer.”

QuantAnalyzer licenses are linked to the computer on which they are activated.

Yes.

You can find tutorials, explanations, and detailed guides in the QuantAnalyzer documentation.

We recommend starting with the basic report analysis and then exploring more advanced features such as Monte Carlo simulations, Money Management, What-If scenarios, and Portfolio Master.

A standard QuantAnalyzer license is intended for one computer at a time.

If you need to run QuantAnalyzer simultaneously on several computers, an additional license is required for each device.

You can move an existing license to another computer when needed—for example after purchasing a new PC—by resetting the license from the Dashboard and activating it on the new device.

QuantDataManager is a historical market-data management tool.

It allows you to:

  • Download historical market data
  • Import your own data
  • Check and analyze data quality
  • View data in tables and charts
  • Change timeframes and time zones
  • Convert data
  • Export data for supported trading and backtesting platforms

QuantDataManager supports several types of markets and multiple integrated data sources.

The same technology is also integrated directly into StrategyQuant X through its Data Manager section, so SQX users can prepare and manage data without leaving the application.

If you already use your own premium data provider, you can still use QuantDataManager to import, check, convert, organize, and export those datasets.

QuantDataManager provides access to historical data from several integrated sources.

Depending on the market and data source, this includes data for Forex, CFDs, equities, cryptocurrencies, metals, and other instruments.

Supported sources currently include services such as Dukascopy, Darwinex, Yahoo, and several cryptocurrency exchanges.

You can also import your own external data.

The standard data-download functionality is available in the Free version. QuantDataManager Pro adds faster and verified downloads through StrategyQuant’s CDN infrastructure and removes advertising.

QuantDataManager Pro is designed mainly for users who frequently work with larger historical datasets.

Its main advantages are:

  • Approximately 10–15× faster downloads through StrategyQuant’s CDN network
  • Verified downloads designed to prevent gaps or missing data
  • No advertising

The underlying data-management, analysis, conversion, and export functionality is also available in the Free version, making it possible to try QuantDataManager before deciding whether the Pro functionality is useful for your workflow.

QuantDataManager Pro is currently available as a lifetime license.

QuantDataManager can prepare and export historical data for use with MetaTrader.

For MetaTrader 4, QDM can export FXT and HST files for high-precision historical backtesting.

Detailed instructions are available here.

QuantDataManager also supports exporting data for MetaTrader 5. Detailed instructions and current procedures can be found in the QuantDataManager documentation.
