Ultimate Oscillator (UO)
The Ultimate Oscillator is a technical analysis tool designed to capture momentum by combining three different time periods into a single value. By weighing short-term, mid-term, and long-term price pressures, it aims to minimize false signals that can arise from focusing on any single timeframe.
Key Parameters
- Fast Length (Default: 7)
- Represents the shortest period used in the calculation of buying pressure and true range.
- Gives you a quick snapshot of recent market momentum.
- Middle Length (Default: 14)
- Serves as a mid-range timeframe.
- Helps balance out any short-term market noise that might skew the data.
- Slow Length (Default: 28)
- The longest timeframe in the combination.
- Provides a broader view of prevailing momentum, reducing the impact of rapid price fluctuations.
How It Works in Practice
- The Ultimate Oscillator oscillates between 0 and 100, with a center line at 50.
- Readings above 50 often imply stronger buying pressure, while values below 50 suggest that selling pressure is dominant.
- Because it aggregates three timeframes, the Ultimate Oscillator aims to avoid the pitfalls of indicators that rely heavily on a single period.
Using It with StrategyQuant
- Overbought/Oversold Conditions
- Values above certain thresholds (e.g., 70) may indicate overbought conditions, while values under lower thresholds (e.g., 30) can suggest oversold markets.
- Such signals can be integrated into your StrategyQuant entry or exit rules.
- Trend Confirmation
- Persistent readings above 50 can support a bullish momentum bias.
- Repeated dips below 50 might confirm bearish sentiment.
- Divergence Comparison Blocks
- In StrategyQuant, the Ultimate Oscillator can be paired with Divergence Comparison Blocks to detect discrepancies between price movement and oscillator readings.
- Divergence (e.g., price making a new high while the oscillator does not) could serve as an early warning signal of potential trend reversals.
By adjusting the Fast Length, Middle Length, and Slow Length to match your trading style, you can tailor the Ultimate Oscillator’s sensitivity to different market conditions. Its blend of multiple timeframes can offer a well-rounded
perspective on momentum and help reduce the noise that comes from focusing on a single period.
Indicator is implemented for: MT4/MT5/Tradestation/ Multicharts.
You can easily do your conditions in Custom blocks. More information you can find here:

In this module, you can also modify the custom blocks – change the periods, change the steps, etc.

Hey Ivan, could you tell me how to use this with Tradestation/Multicharts? Not seeing an ELD or PLA file in the zip. Thanks!
