I was browsing the forums and saw that someone has a IBM x3850 x5 which utilises 4 CPUs e7-4870, so a total of 40 cores, and 80 threads.

For a similar price, I can get a Ryzen 9 3900x with 1 CPU that has 12 cores and 24 threads.

Which would be the better machine for strategy creation given same RAM and everything else? the Ryzens from AMD are latest chips whereas the e7-4870 are now discontinued Xeons.

Anyone have any idea??

Keep in mind the power consumption. The IBM is a server i guess which is going to consume considerably more and with much much more noise at full throttle.

In general, the relationship between cores and clock speed is what matters the most, but the ryzen 3900x is just fine. I’m generating with an epyc 7502P (64t) which i think is amazing.

Now that the new Apple M1 chips are supported.. I was wondering how a new Mac mini (8 core and 16 neural engine) would compare with a server with 40 cores and 80 threads vs the Ryzen 1 CPU with 12 cores and 24 threads..
