I’ve been using US Dedicated and been happy with their service.
If you use my link they’ll give me a referral kickback, thanks.  🙂

Though unless you’re also wanting to also use it for trading you’d be better off putting the money towards a dedicated PC at home. You should be able to pick up some good deals on 1st Gen. Threadripper parts pretty soon, if not already.
This will give you massively more processing power for the spend than you’ll get with a dedicated server.

Though like I said, if you’re also using it for trading, then having one based in NYC will give you sub-10ms ping to many brokers.

These look quite “juicy”

4 socket x 16 core Xeon for rent, so 64 core, 128 threads.

@mikeyc,

yes I agree this is a fast computer, but very expensive.

You can buy a computer, it is cheaper. But I think the highest costs are the enery costs.

A good balace is the AMD 2700.

I have a AMD1700(TDP65W)  it has 8 Cores /16 threads and the power consumption is 100 watt.

Yes, that server to rent is crazy expensive.

AMD 2700 is great price / performance.

Pretty much unbeatable in terms of price for the power you get (all of their servers actually are insanely cheap compared to almost all other dedicated server offers). I am using them since 2015 for SQ, never had an issue, spot on support too.

It is best to buy your own computer to optimize with SQX. It is cheaper!

As a dedecated server, I can recommend you

http://www.ip-projects.de

to run the ea’s. I have been with Mr Schintzel and his team for years, have already brokered over 30 people there and anybody has been annoyed by my mediation so far.
Tell me if it worked.

I am using a second hand Dell R920…its very fast. Note however, SQX cannot use more than 60 physical cores due to limitations that are inherent within java. Even with 60 physcial cores, it wont use more than 30 of them unless you can set the BIOS to only present the physcial cores to the OS, and thus the hyperthreading (core virtualisation) to 120 virtual cores is done out of sight of the OS. I posted more detaisl here https://roadmap.strategyquant.com/tasks/sq4_2571 (see my comment on 25/10/2018)…bascially be careful not to waste your money on cores that wont be utilised. Once SQX introduces the grid computing feature, it will be better to buy a pile of old 1U servers and network them into you main server to boost computational power beyond 60 cores. With regard to cost, by far and away buying your own server is much much cheaper than anyhting cloud based; leaving a 120 v-core instance running for 1 month on AWS or Google Compute would cost you an eye watering amount of $…after purchasing the dell I only have to worry about electricity costs…uses 1kWh on average when cranked up so for about $30 per month at full tilt =  2,000,000 strategies per hour.
