I am not sure if there is such a topic on SQ forum but i think some of the members would be interested in relevant news regarding PC hardware. Main focus is the processor.

The x86 architecture has been hitting something of a wall lately but AMD looks like it could be set to inject it with a fresh breath of life. According to the rumor mill, the company has finalized the Zen 3 design and it introduces a new SMT4 feature that will allow each core to execute four threads simultaneously.

My personal opinion after many months using the old SQ 3 on a good gaming laptop is that, not the performance is the main issue but the cooling system which is simply not adequate for such tasks like using SQ. I had to completely remove the back plate and put the laptop on a laptop cooler and after 6 months, both fans failed (the bearings) and i had to replace both fans. Any mobile cooling system is too small to provide sufficient cooling in a 24/24 scenario. They are simply not designed to be used this way.

Only a desktop cooler can fullfil the requirements. Just out of curiosity, i can post a picture with one of the most powerful mobile cooling systems, presently on a MSI laptop, but even with that, its still not suficient.

The only way i can see a laptop used in SQ, as a second PC on which the strategies are filtered. In other words, you generate the strategies on a desktop, and you move and filter them on the laptop. This way you buy some time also.

Ivan, yes I am from Hungary, but actually I live now in Switzerland. But this is not a matter, because I can send the notebook via SwissPost with insurance.
The laptop was used mostly for gaming and evaluating for strategies and it is 1,5 years old. It is although used, but looks like new, because it was very careful with the notebook. It was always cleaned.

I don’t sell it because I was not confident with it, I just don’t need it.

although the processors are the focus in hardware for SQ, SSD and memory will have some upgrades this year, PCIe 4.0 for SSD and DDR5 for memory

this will be more like an advantage for users because the prices for the old Ryzen 3000 and 400 series chipset motherboards will drop and a 3700X, 3800X or 3900X on a B450 chipset, are still ofering very good performance

A short notice. Since I did a lot of performance testings in all combinations (AMD/Intel/Multiple socket machines). Most important factors is L3 cache size, core processor speed and latency of your memory controller.. It’s down to specific SQX load profile. All the rest is a nuance.

Sometimes a carefully selected old generation Xeon IvyBridge can blow up a recent generation processor (not ever factoring in the cost..) . I know it sounds weird but is a measured fact.

Note I test only server class processors which by definitions perform worse depending on your goals and how you see it. Consumer class systems might be faster (in limited some cases) but I target platform stability.
