Safeguards to avoid misleading Renko backtest results

I’m getting SQN>10 and perfect equity curves, which makes me feel like a hero.

However, as we all know, Renko backtests are misleading because the Open is a false open and it doesn’t show the Low (for Green brick) and High (for a Red brick).

1) Can we have a list of safeguards to use in the SQ Settings, so we don’t get strategies with misleading results and fitness metrics ..Some examples –

  a) Don’t select Open price

  b) All Stop Loss and Profit Stops should be larger than a brick-size – e.g. Stop Loss>5 ticks for 5tick Renko data.  Not sure this will safeguard either … any ideas?

.  Also, wish there’s a way to specify this in Settings, without enforcing the same constraint for Profit Targets.

  c)  Any others I’m missing?

2) Finally, is there a way to backtest successful Renko strateges in tick mode (either in SQ or in Ninja) to get accurate results?  Ninja recommends Market Replay but it’s very tedious to download Replay data 1 day at a time and backtest manually.

thanks

Kiran

The most valuable results can be obtained by using mainly the market order with renko/range charts. Also things simplify significantly compared to tick mode testing. Remember that with NinjaTrader backtesting engine in SQ you can only test using “selected timeframe” precision

Just recently i sent an EMAIL to Artur from AZ-INVEST, the creator of the back-testable renko and other offline charts scripts with SQ,

Mark, Thomas and others please read it also because after long testings and deep understandings i came to a conclution and solution to this, the fix should be add on SQ side of things also!

BTW this would also be posted at the “Tasks” page for your to review there also..

here is the EMAIL:

Hii there Artur, how things going?,

Any update about fixing the renko script?..,

I did tested a lot on the Median Renko script,

And I found the perfect explanation on 2 main problems that you got in the script!*

So¦., When you formed an .fxt file of the tickdata you want,

And then you of course include those 2 lines of code that you mention in the guide,

After all that you going to test your renko EA that you want¦

And then there are 2 problems that makes the EA inaccurate*!

Problem #1:

The problem is when the EA takes Sell Orders it will not get any spread effect from the MT4 Strategy Tester Spread that was set,

When it takes Buy Orders the effect of the spread is on.

#Problem #2:

A Huge problem that is the main main problem in your script!,

The problem is that when a new bar formed it wont skip the first tick like it suppose to skip by the mql4 code that you have to add into your EA!*,

The new bar will start at the WRONG place!, and that makes the EA trigger the SL or TP instantly!, please check my Screenshot that I’ve sent to you in this message to see what I’m talking about**!

(Median Renko was used with 50 pips, and 0.10%)

And I did tested on different settings also.., like 10 pips, 20 pips, etc..,

And different settings on the %, like 0.30%, 0.20%, 0.05%, 0.01%, etc..,

Thanks and please please please try to fix this problem¦., keep me updated thanks..!
