Here’s where we can discuss SQ X updates nad news.
This topic was renamed from SQ4 Early preview. The old, no longer relevant posts are or will be deleted and archived.
The point is in clearing up our forum from old, non-relevant stuff.

I’m sorry for a big number of issues in the last update. We had to make a lot of changes to support translation to other languages, and a lot of these problems were caused by this.
I’m thinking that maybe we’ll make a release of RC5 this Friday, to fix the most pressing issues.
I can’t see in the roadmap the export of the strategies in easy language. Will sq4 support it? Thank you
yes, we will, but for the first release we focus only on MetaTarder 4/5. Support for EasyLanguage should be added within a month or so.
custom indicators and GPU
this has been discussed few times, GPU cannot really be used if we want to allow users to programm their own indicators and other things and extend SQ4 with their own ideas. There still might be some possibilities how to use GPU in SQ4, we will focus on it when we have nothing more important to do.
Custom indicators – my original idea was that they will not be supported, because in SQ4 you will be able to programm your own indicator that doesn’t have any disadvantages of indicators defined only by importing data. But maybe we’ll add it, custom indicators in this sense will be just another data input, like an additional chart.
I think it will be great to have a feature in strategyquant to backtest compounding of profits…
it is already there, it is called Money Management. You can choose a different type of money management instead of fixed lots, and you can also write your own Money Management function.
Using CodeEditor and extending SQ4 with your own indicators, other blocks, money managements etc. is still not working 100%, but it will in the new version and we’ll prepare a lot of examples.
One more thing – please use Roadmap (https://roadmap.strategyquant.com) to submit your ideas or new feature requests, that is the right place to do it. It will be lost if you post it only on forum.

Thanks, Mark.
The Rc4 is more stable, and running faster.
Although you said that it will support multi back-test engines ( TS/MC, …) when MT4/MT5’s engine work well.
But more people are asking the EasyLanguage support, so is it possible to include TS/MC back-test engine in the following RC5?
So we can test sq4 with mt4, TS/MC parallelly. And we can give more test result to improve sq4.
Hello all, we just released new SQ4 Release Candidate 4: https://strategyquant.com/betaversion4 Direct download link: https://strategyquant.com/licenses/d?code=sqrc4 Changelog: https://roadmap.strategyquant.com/projects/sq4/roadmap Automatic updater should also finally work, so RC3 should be updated to RC4. RC4 is mainly bugfix and stability release, we improved several things that should make program more stable and also faster.

Mark – a release on Friday again would be great because my copy of RC4 is non-functional mostly because of the messed up databank with portfolio only data and inability to configure views.

Anyone using Portfoliolizer to find robust strategies that work on multiple currency pairs ?Please share your experience using portfoliolizer to find robust multi markets strategies.

Mark,
so disappointing release … I think you where committed to not develop any new features until we have stable release version? Now the situation is that new feature multi language has screwed up everything and actually is multiple languages priority anyway?
Please fix this mess and release RC4.1 ASAP and continue with biweekly releases. We waited 3 weeks :/

And… the feature to code Your own indicators is coming:
a) in one of the RC releases
b) when sq 4 is released
c) after sq 4 is released and other more important features are implemented.
Thx

ps: java programmer here, so I am really looking forward to that.

When you say ‘code your own indicators’, how? in what language? I’m assuming Java given that’s what the platform runs on.
Why not have compatibility with MQ4? I’m not a coder, in fact, it was 1/2 the reason i purchased SQ in the first place.
I have a bunch of customised indicators which I want to use in SQ4 as building blocks, but haven’t a clue where to start or how to convert them.

Java. you have to learn code . You can still use sq4 without coding but if you want to have customizes indicators you can ask somebody to do it.

Dale, it was said many many times – importing indicator data has a lot of disadvantages. In fact it has so may disadvantages that SQ4 will have it’s own API for programmers (and making that “feature” takes a ton of hours – trust me there could have been many other features in SQ4 instead of that one).
As far as not being a programmer – You don’t have to be one…. in a sense. Converting indicators and writting Your own ones is a difference like between solving this equation x + 2 = 5 and this one 2x^4 -5x^2 + 7 = 0. What I want to say is that “converting” is a matter of syntax. A language barrier only. And learning that shouldn’t take You more than 450 hours only = 3 intensive months (evenings + weekends). And with java it’s super easy too.
First – get an idea what programming is about:
Smth like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3u1fu6f8Hto and google some others. That’s Your first 150 hours.
Then second, get this book: google -> OCA 7 Exam certification Book pdf lagout -> first result from the top. It has only 950 pages and there is whole java syntax there! So with my calculation it’s only 3 pages per hour of reading (casual tempo).
—————–
as a quick reality check I wanted to add 3 cents:
1. The idea “I want to become a millionaire by doing close to nothing, not learning fundamental analysis, not learning programming/technicals, not learning about sentiment, not wasting 16+ hours in front of my 6 screens trading manually and generally NOT learning/doing nothing at all. I want to just click (preferably 1) button that will generate a profitable strategy for me and do all the hard work for me” doesn’t work.
2. At trader’s podcast You have 500+ traders telling about their lives. Most of them took years to learn to trade. Same goes for almost any top successful people in any area of life. Yes, even becoming a singer/an actor is tough. So when I say “only” 500 hours it’s ment to be taken literally. “Only” in this case is really “only” 500 hours.

Hello all,
we just released new SQ4 Release Candidate 5: https://strategyquant.com/betaversion4
Direct download link: https://strategyquant.com/licenses/d?code=sqrc5
Changelog: https://roadmap.strategyquant.com/projects/sq4/roadmap
Automatic updater should also finally work, so your SQ 4 should be automatically updated to RC5.
As for programming custom indicators – Snippets are in Java, but they are easier to work with than MT4/MT5 indicators.
And we will provide “conversion” service for free or for a small fee, where we can make create indicators for you.
