Here’s where we can discuss SQ X updates nad news.
This topic was renamed from SQ4 Early preview. The old, no longer relevant posts are or will be deleted and archived.
The point is in clearing up our forum from old, non-relevant stuff.

I’m a longer time SQ 3 user. Is SQ X already in production and where can I find the upgrade from SQ 3?
The full version of SQX is not released yet. SQ3 Pro license owners can participate, test and help improve SQX using this link https://strategyquant.com/betaversion4

I’d like to let you know that we decided to postpone release of new build to next week.
We still havven’t finished few bigger tasks, and there are issues about memory and performance when SQ runs for a very long time that we need to check.

You’re right, something happens to the gui that stuck, but if you access on chrome by remote is working also if the gui is stucked.

I think that is a good idea, there looks like quite a few outstanding bugs to look at, would make sense to clear the list of existing bugs before the next release.

If you have more then 16 GB of ram it works. Even with 40 threads i never go above 24 gig of ram. But even using only 1 thread it will reach 13 gig of ram after 12 hours and that with no strategies found and without Montecarlo or WFA simulations. I does not matter which settings You use for ram handling the result is the same.

Hi Mark,
I just noticed that SQX doesn’t appear to have the improve strategy feature, so for example to take existing strategies and improve aspects such as entry rules, exist rules, order type.
Why has this feature been dropped or is it now somewhere non obvious?
Regards,
Mike

wow
awesome companions.
one thing I have it installed in a hp dl380 of 7g with 24gb and the consumption of memory rises to 100%. I am thinking about expanding the memory since I can apply up to 12 memory banks ddr3 ecc.with 60gb of ram will be enough ?? . the systems created usually go around 2 years of bactestf

Hi Mark,
SQ 3 has the ability to import the values of custom indicator.
Can we do the same for SQX?
Otherwise, please have this feature in SQX because it is going to be important for various purpose including indicators from NeuralNet. With the SQX fuzzy thingy, this will be very handy to create voting, etc.
I know using custom Java indicator (as you are planning to implement) is nice.
Why don’t we have both… 🙂

Yudi

yes, SQ X supports range bars, but for now it doesn’t compute them. You have to import the range bars computed for example in AZ Invest plugins

no, it is there. This functionality is in What to build setting
Memory problems – I’m looking at it. So far it seems to be some internal Java problem, that the garbage clooector doesn’t work optimally. It can fine tune itself so it should work better as you’ll use SQ more. Perhaps this is the reason why I cannot reproduce it on my computers.
You don’t need 60 GB of RAN to run SQ. 8 GB is robbaly too little, but 16 GB or 32 GB should be sufficient enough. I use only 16 GB on my 48 cores machine without any problems. The actual memory consumption is only around 4-8 GB, and it is not growing.

Mabi, can you make one test for me? You say that it will reach 13 gigs even on one thread. Do you use genetic evolution or random generation? And after you stop it is the memory cleared after some time?
Can you wait until it reaches big memory consumption, then stop it and wait for a few minutes? The memory usage should decrease to a low level again. Does it happen or not?

Sorry to disappoint you guys, i have a machine with 64gb and i reached 47gb of ram used by SQX over a genetic generations (databank 60k strategies)
With this big pool the GUI totally crash, but i continue the work by remote with chrome over the local ip 127.0.0.1:8080

Mark the memory still here, not decrease, tested with a process finished after many hours (i went to sleep and when i woke up the process was ended and the ram was full)

After my recent memory challenges after build 105, i think, I was in the process of buying a larger CPU pc and then realised its probably not the lack of memory as such because the machine used to work perfectly well with previous SQ versions. So I am not buying anothe machine until memory issues within SQ are resolved.

It seems SQx gets buggy if You remote control the workstation it is on. It is a lot of info on java problems under remote control on the web. Normally the java windows do not repaint and program hang. I had this problem for years with SQ3. It could not be remote controlled if computor had HDMI out but worked fine if it did not. Unfourtunately certain functions in SQX loads java windows and this seems to have other buggy effect on the program. Some programmers have a solution to this problem with this code -Dsun.java2d.d3d=false but i do not know if is applicable in case of SQx. One install of mine with SQx 108 is now creating alot of wierd bugs but another install that do not have HDMI out connection works fine in remote. This can be one reason to why some people are experience certain bugs and some are not.
